New grade of Cyclo Olefin Polymer
Zeon Corporation (Zeon; head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tetsuya Toyoshima) launched a new grade of Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP, product names: ZEONEX® and ZEONOR®), its proprietary specialty plastic, in September 2024. Featuring significantly lower birefringence than that of other products and excellent resistance to light and heat yellowing, the new grade is expected to see growing demand, particularly as a material for optical lenses.
Zeon developed the new grade, ZEONEX® 360R, specifically for optical lenses requiring low birefringence. This grade is expected to be used primarily in AR and VR glasses, head-up displays, and projector lens components. ZEONEX® 360R stands out for its (1) low birefringence, (2) light resistance, and (3) heat yellowing resistance. Notably, we have succeeded in limiting birefringence to roughly one-third of that seen in conventional products.
